Are you “playing the harlot” with the government?

A harlot is a prostitute; that is, a woman who has many casual sexual encounters or relationships for gains (Gen 38:15-17; Luke 15:30). Play the harlot means as it reads; it is better said as practicing prostitution. It is a situation in which a woman does not stick with one legitimate partner but has sexual encounters with a lot of men for gains – for money. In so doing, they act in complete disregard and violation of the mandates of God’s law in Prov. 7, and thus, blaspheme God. In legal or political terms, that blasphemy is called “anarchism” (Form #08.020). Anarchists are unwelcome on this website.
“Now therefore, listen to me, my children;
Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25 Do not let your heart turn aside to her [the harlot’s] ways,
Do not stray into her paths;
26 For she has cast down many wounded,
And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27 Her house is the way to l]hell,
Descending to the chambers of death.”[Prov. 7:24-27, Bible, NKJV]
When Jesus talks about “Man shall not live by bread alone” in Matt. 4:4 and Luke 4:4, what He means is that MONEY or food or commerce MAY NOT be the sole or most important motivation you have for doing something, and that God’s law is the paramount and ONLY legitimate motivation. In the case of a prostitute, her ONLY motivation is money or pleasure or “benefit” and TO HELL with God’s law.
In the Bible, play the harlot describes spiritual prostitution in which:
- One has divided his devotion among many objects of worship or even servitude. Worship, according to the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 always involves servitude of one kind or another. For instance, if you are addicted to power, money, sex, fame and value these things more than god, you are worshipping idols, since they produce servitude and obedience of one kind or another to obtain them. The love of money mentioned 1 Tim. 6:10 is an example of this phenomenon. On this subject, Jesus said: “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.”, John 8:34-35, Bible, NKJV. If there is anything you would violate God’s laws or commit suicide or injure yourself because you lost it, or give your life to get it, then it is an idol. See:
Counterfeit Gods, Tim Keller - It is the practice in which one is not devoted to one deity but offers his or her act of worship such as prayer, sacrifices, adoration, servitude, or even obedience of any kind etc. to many deities or beings with superior or supernatural powers above his or her own. The result is an abandonment of “monotheism”. By “devotion” in a spiritual or common sense, we also mean ALLEGIANCE in a LEGAL sense. For instance, you cannot be a “citizen” in a political sense without nationality in a legal sense. One who is a “national” in a legal sense is someone with undivided allegiance to a political ruler or government.
TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 12 > SUBCHAPTER I > Sec. 1101.
(a) (22) The term ”national of the United States” means
(A) a citizen of the United States, or
(B) a person who, though not a citizen of the United States, owes permanent [but not necessarily exclusive] allegiance to the United States.
Thus, if your allegiance to a political ruler or government is ABOVE your allegiance to God, then your allegiance is divided and you are “playing the harlot”. Now we know the reason for the following scripture:
“Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship [and “citizenship”/domicile] with the world [or the governments of the world] is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend [statutory “citizen” or “taxpayer” or “resident” or “inhabitant“] of the world makes himself an enemy of God.“
[James 4:4, Bible, NKJV]“No servant [or religious ministry or biological person] can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [government].“
[Luke 16:13, Bible, NKJV]
There is, in fact, no clearer or purer measure or expression of your religious faith than what your priorities are in relation to the world around you. If you are a Christian, God must ALWAYS be first! That’s why He calls himself “The Most High”. DUUUH! Only when we TREAT him as “the most high” in our life can He truly be the KING that He claims to be and King of EVERYTHING:
On the subject of allegiance to God v. allegiance to government, the U.S. Supreme Court has said:
“Much has been said of the paramount duty to the state, a duty to be recognized, it is urged, even though it conflicts with convictions of duty to God. Undoubtedly that duty to the state exists within the domain of power, for government may enforce obedience to laws regardless of scruples. When one’s belief collides with the power of the state, the latter is supreme within its sphere and submission or punishment follows. But, in the forum of conscience, duty to a moral power higher than the state has always been maintained. The reservation of that supreme obligation, as a matter of principle, would unquestionably be made by many of our conscientious and law-abiding citizens. The essence of religion is belief in a relation to God involving duties superior to those [283 U.S. 605, 634] arising from any human relation. As was stated by Mr. Justice Field, in Davis v. Beason, 133 U.S. 333, 342 , 10 S.Ct. 299, 300: ‘The term ‘religion’ has reference to one’s views of his relations to his Creator, and to the obligations they impose of reverence for his being and character, and of obedience to his will.’ One cannot speak of religious liberty, with proper appreciation of its essential and historic significance, without assuming the existence of a belief in supreme allegiance to the will of God. Professor Macintosh, when pressed by the inquiries put to him, stated what is axiomatic in religious doctrine. And, putting aside dogmas with their particular conceptions of deity, freedom of conscience itself implies respect for an innate conviction of paramount duty. The battle for religious liberty has been fought and won with respect to religious beliefs and practices, which are not in conflict with good order, upon the very ground of the supremacy of conscience within its proper field. What that field is, under our system of government, presents in part a question of constitutional law, and also, in part, one of legislative policy in avoiding unnecessary clashes with the dictates of conscience. There is abundant room for enforcing the requisite authority of law as it is enacted and requires obedience, and for maintaining the conception of the supremacy of law as essential to orderly government, without demanding that either citizens or applicants for citizenship shall assume by oath an obligation to regard allegiance to God as subordinate to allegiance to civil power. The attempt to exact such a promise, and thus to bind one’s conscience by the taking of oaths or the submission to tests, has been the cause of many deplorable conflicts. The Congress has sought to avoid such conflicts in this country by respecting our happy tradition. In no sphere of legislation has the intention to prevent such clashes been more conspicuous than in relation to the bearing of arms. It would require strong evidence [283 U.S. 605, 635] that the Congress intended a reversal of its policy in prescribing the general terms of the naturalization oath. I find no such evidence.”
Synonyms for harlotry in the Bible
A synonym for harlotry in the bible is “pleasure in unrighteousness”, and the result of it is self-delusion, deception, and slavery:
5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the d]mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only e]He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

The delusion spoken of above will come mainly because you will always see every situation through the clouded lense of what can benefit you, rather than what can benefit everyone and hurt no one. In a legal sense, that delusion comes in the following forms:

In a governmental sense, the sin of “pleasure in unrighteousness” and the corruption it produces is described biblically as follows:
“Your princes are rebellious,
And companions of thieves;
Everyone loves bribes,
And follows after rewards.
They do not defend the fatherless,
Nor does the cause of the widow come before them.[Isaiah 1:23, Bible, NKJV]
The above sin God identifies as being caused EXCLUSIVELY by corrupt judges and lawyers:
Therefore the Lord says,
The Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel,
“Ah, I will l]rid Myself of My adversaries,
And m]take vengeance on My enemies.
25 I will turn My hand against you,
And thoroughlyn] purge away your dross,
And take away all your alloy.
26 I will restore your [corrupt] judges as at the first,
And your [corrupt] counselors [lawyers] as at the beginning.
Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.”[Isaiah 1:24-26, Bible, NKJV]
Instances of Harlotry in the Bible
Instances where play the harlot is used to express apostasy in the Bible are as follows:
For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot. Jeremiah 2:20
They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 3:1
The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot. Jeremiah 3:6
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also. Jeremiah 3:8
But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was. Ezekiel 16:15
And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so. Ezekiel 16:16
Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied. Ezekiel 16:28
And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more. Ezekiel 16:41
And Aholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours, Ezekiel 23:5
Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. Ezekiel 23:19
For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink. Hosea 2:5
Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Bethaven, nor swear, The LORD liveth. Hosea 4:15
The expression play the harlot or playing the harlot or played the harlot or playedst the harlot appear frequently in the prophecies of Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Hosea. They were used in reference to instances where the Israelites denied the one true God of their devotion and, rather, rendered it to not one but many pagan deities such as Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Zidonians; Baal; Milcom, the god of the Ammonites; Chemosh, the god of Moab; Molech, the god of the Ammonites, etc. What many of these idols had in common is that they were governments or civil rulers or a substitute for God’s laws with pagan secular civil law.
Playing the harlot in the era of the Judges
During the era of the judges, playing the harlot was a common sin among the Israelites. They forsook the one true God who brought them out of Egypt and opened themselves up to pagan religions just as a harlot is open to any man. In their harlotry, they went after many gods from the pagan nations around them. This is clear evidence of playing the harlot:
And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger. 13 And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. Judges 2:12, 13.
In those days, when the Israelites play the harlot and apostatize, God delivers them into the hands of their enemies such as the Philistines, Midianites, etc. who oppress them sore. In their agony, they cry to the Lord for help, and the Lord listens to them and look upon them with mercy. And He raises up a judge for them, and by the hand of the judge, He saves Israel from her enemies. Now while the judge lives, the Israelites serve the Lord, but when the judge dies, they turn back and become more corrupt than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them (Judges 2:19). For this reason, there was a cycle of playing the harlot; they stop playing the harlot only for a time and then they begin again.
Playing the harlot in the era of the kings
King Solomon was the first among the kings of Israel to set the example for other kings to follow in leading the whole nation, Israel, into playing the harlot. He happened to marry many wives who misled his heart into pagan religions. He adopted pagan gods and built shrines for them in the land of Israel. By so doing he led the Israelites into polytheism like the pagan nations. It is written –
5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. 1Ki 11:7 Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. 1 Kings 11:5 – 7.
The Kingdom of Israel played the harlot
After the death of Solomon, Israel broke into two kingdoms, one is the Kingdom of Judah, and the other, the northern kingdom of Israel, which comprised of ten tribes. The first king to rule over the northern kingdom of Israel was Jeroboam. Jeroboam, for political reasons, misled the kingdom into idolatry by making two golden calves and setting one in Bethel and the other in Dan for the Israelites to worship so as to prevent them from going to Jerusalem of Judah to worship the one true God. He also built high places on top of hills where the Israelites went to sacrifice to any deity of their choice. The worship of the golden calves then became the religion of the kingdom in that all the other kings who came later followed in Jeroboam’s footsteps. In the days of Ahab, due to his marriage to Jezebel, Ahab adopted the worship of Baal from the Zidonians; and he built a shrine for Baal in Israel; thus he added the religion of Baal to the religion of the golden calves, and the people practiced both religions. Verily, the northern kingdom of Israel played the harlot.
The kingdom of Judah played the harlot
King Rehoboam, son of Solomon, was the first of the kings of Judah. He was no better than Jeroboam, the first king of the northern kingdom of Israel. He led Judah to build high places, images, and groves on every high hill for the worship of multitudes of gods. (1 Kings 14:22, 23). Other kings such as King Abijah, King Jehoram, King Ahaz, King Manasseh, etc. followed in the footsteps of Rehoboam. Thus the Kingdom of Judah also played the harlot, serving many gods.
Harlotry within Modern Christianity as defined in a LEGAL sense
Black’s Law Dictionary defines commerce as “intercourse”.
“Commerce. …Intercourse by way of trade and traffic between different peoples or states and the citizens or inhabitants thereof, including not only the purchase, sale, and exchange of commodities, but also the instrumentalities [governments] and agencies by which it is promoted and the means and appliances by which it is carried on…”

Intercourse with WHO? In the context of this article it means commerce with the government. HOW exactly is that commerce instituted? Mainly with franchises. There is no other way. This is why we put the following warning on the opening page of this website:
People of all races, genders, political beliefs, sexual orientations, and nearly all religions are welcome here. All are treated equally under REAL “law”. The only way to remain truly free and equal under the civil law is to avoid seeking government civil services, benefits, property, special or civil status, exemptions, privileges, or special treatment. All such pursuits of government services or property require individual and lawful consent to a franchise and the surrender of inalienable constitutional rights AND EQUALITY in the process, and should therefore be AVOIDED. The rights and equality given up are the “cost” of procuring the “benefit” or property from the government, in fact. Nothing in life is truly “free”. Anyone who claims that such “benefits” or property should be free and cost them nothing is a thief who wants to use the government as a means to STEAL on his or her behalf. All just rights spring from responsibilities/obligations under the laws of a higher power. If that higher power is God, you can be truly and objectively free. If it is government, you are guaranteed to be a slave because they can lawfully set the cost of their property as high as they want as a Merchant under the U.C.C. If you want it really bad from people with a monopoly, then you will get it REALLY bad. Bend over. There are NO constitutional limits on the price government can charge for their monopoly services or property. Those who want no responsibilities can have no real/PRIVATE rights, but only privileges dispensed to wards of the state which are disguised to LOOK like unalienable rights. Ways in which Christians apostatize by playing the harlot
- Christians who pursue government privileges or franchises and exchange their rights or freedom to do so in violation of God’s law are guilty of playing the harlot. 1 Sam. 8:10-22. Click here for an article on this subject and see the previous section also.
- Idolatry is still not far from the Christendom. The practice of bowing down to statues or idols and sculptures such as the cross, etc. are all tantamount to playing the harlot – apostasy. Exodus 20:4-5
- Christians who practice or consult divination, medium, witchcraft, etc. in the quest for help, fame, healing, protection, success, etc. are guilty of playing the harlot. Deuteronomy 18:10, 11
- Some professing Christians make harlots of themselves by embracing ideas, opinions, doctrines, etc. which do not pertain to Christianity. In other words, they play the harlot by embracing all kinds of false teachings or false doctrines or false beliefs, worldly opinions, philosophies of men, human customs and traditions, etc. which go contrary to the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17
Conclusion
Playing the harlot is tantamount to apostasy and idolatry. Playing the harlot is not a thing of the past; it is still happening today. This calls for Christians to be circumspect. Christians should guide themselves from going after things, ideas, habits, government benefits, franchises, privileges, etc. which contradict our faith.
Christians are indoctrinated from the youth to love God and country, but to serve blindly a government that is clearly the daughter of the Whore of Babylon as a good little U.S. citizen is clearly apostate. Idolators in America are not called idolators. They are called STATUTORY “individuals”, “officers”, “voters”, and “U.S. citizens”. The civil statutory code in fact is an “employment agreement” designed to dupe you into working for the government or “serving” them often unknowingly and without real constitutionally enforceable compensation. Thus, it is designed to fool you into violating the First Commandment of the Ten Commandments NOT to serve other Gods.

Public officers and government employees serve the God of government, and it is INDEED a false god and idol if it has any more rights or authority than a single human being. All are equal under REAL law, and if you have to serve anyone or can be compelled to do so as a public officer or government employee, then you are no longer equal. By unknowingly ‘serving” the government under a civil statutory code that doesn’t apply to them, they have forfeited ALL their constitutional rights and protections in exchange for government privileges. They in effect become Essau, who forfeited his inheritance for stinking bowl of pottage:
“The restrictions that the Constitution places upon the government in its capacity as lawmaker, i.e., as the regulator of private conduct, are not the same as the restrictions that it places upon the government in its capacity as employer. We have recognized this in many contexts, with respect to many different constitutional guarantees. Private citizens perhaps cannot be prevented from wearing long hair, but policemen can. Kelley v. Johnson, 425 U.S. 238, 247 (1976). Private citizens cannot have their property searched without probable cause, but in many circumstances government employees can. O’Connor v. Ortega, 480 U.S. 709, 723 (1987) (plurality opinion); id., at 732 (SCALIA, J., concurring in judgment). Private citizens cannot be punished for refusing to provide the government information that may incriminate them, but government employees can be dismissed when the incriminating information that they refuse to provide relates to the performance of their job. Kind of radical, but not to those who have been in the belly of the beast like us and many of our members. But consider what God has to say about this:
“Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers [the heathens], nor observe their [STATUTORY but not COMMON LAW] judgments, nor defile yourselves with their [pagan government] idols. I am the LORD your God: Walk in [obey] My statutes, keep My judgments, and do them; hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.”

Does your pastor talk about these things to the congregation from the pulpit? If not, could it be that he is more interested in filthy lucre and milking the cows in the pews or helping the GOVERNMENT do the milking for him to pay for his tax deduction than he is in the Biblical truth on this subject? Ask him or her.
